OPINI, RAKYATFLORES.COM-In the current digital era, student life cannot be separated from social media. Every day, they see various posts about academic achievements, luxurious trips, attractive lifestyles, and even perfect appearances. At first glance, it all looks inspiring. However, without realizing it, this habit has given rise to a new phenomenon called the culture of showing off in the digital world, which reduces students’ self-confidence due to the culture of showing off that is developing on social media.
The digital revolution has had a major impact on the way humans communicate, learn, and express themselves. Students use various digital platforms every day to interact, search for information, and share their experiences. According to Hidayat (2022), digital transformation has changed the way humans think, work, and interact with other people. The latest data from We Are Social (2023) also shows that Indonesians spend an average of more than three hours per day on social media. As a result, social media has an important role in shaping a person’s view of themselves and others. Therefore, the culture of showing off on social media has created unrealistic digital standards and ultimately triggered a crisis of self-confidence among students.
